Adam Levine and his band are back with their new album, Overexposed. With this fourth studio album, the group hopes to ride the success of Moves like Jagger and put behind them the bad numbers of their previous album.
To ensure a successful return, the group has decided to work with Max Martin – hit maker for Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Pink and Katy Perry to name a few. The first single – Payphone – is topping the charts all around the world and should set the album for some good sales. At least in the early weeks.
Without considering myself as fan of the band, I always found their music energetic and refreshing. One or two songs always make their way through my iPod. And their first hit – This Love – reminds me so many memories that Maroon 5 has always been part of my music library.
Unfortunately, I’m a bit lost with this new album. Neither good nor bad it makes me feel doubtful. I can’t seem to find this Maroon 5 sound that I used to like so much. As the band strive so much to be on top of the charts they seem to have lost their way. However I’m conviced that Maroon 5 is more than just a FM pop band. I went to see them in concert few years ago and I can assure you that they rock ! But in the end Overexposed is just bland : easy and not so endearing melodies. I expected better of Maroon 5.
Usually so sure of my opinions, I am somewhat puzzled by this disc. Normally there’s no warm feelings on Fulifemusic.com. Either I love it or hate it. But Maroon 5 has managed to make me doubt…
